Since 1995 the Association for Town Marketing of Wetter ("Stadtmarketing für Wetter e.V.") works for the presentation of the location Wetter and the systematic prestige advertising as well as for improving the attractiveness of the town of Wetter (Ruhr) for citizens of Wetter (Ruhr), citizens of the surrounding area as well as resident and interested companies. The association wants to contribute by ideological, material and / or financial support for appropriate events in cultural, sporting, economic, social and / or environmental fields. The association can also achieve these purposes by implementing appropriate procedures (eg. planning and guidance documents, publications and related services).

From Friedrich Harkort to Shank‘s Cattle to the Segway Tour

"We have a lot of Harkort in it," says the volunteer city guide Doris Hülshoff at the press conference on the presentation of the annual program of the City Marketing for Wetter.

And indeed, the City Marketing is taking part in the jubilee year "200 years of Friedrich Harkort and the mechanical workshop" with several anniversary city tours around Friedrich Harkort. It starts on 20 March with a guide to the life of the industrial pioneer, on 14 May it's about the social and political commitment Harkorts and on June 4, the topic of technology is in the foreground. Here, participants can take a look in the castle tower and in the castle ruins (expected from May 14). Meeting point is at 2.45 pm at the castle ruins in the Freiheit in Alt-Wetter. The cost is 3 euros, a reservation is required.

After the meeting point in the Freiheit, a guided walk along the historical path (several large posters with pictures and text on lampposts to the history of Harkort and his workshop) leads to the Demag. There is a small snack and then a factory tour with lots of information about the production and logistics of the company.

Of course, the popular Harkort tours take place as bus rides in the anniversary year (13 April and 28 September). The exhibition "Harkort and the Mechanical Workshop" as well as "Freiheit Alt-Wetter yesterday and today" are being intensified with an exhibition organized by City Marketing together with the Home Club.

After the successful premiere of the Museum Day in Wetter, there will be a sequel this year – on Saturday, September 14th. Then all five museums are open in Wetter from 14 to 18 o'clock.

Due to the high demand, some of the popular city tours will take place in the afternoon (2 to 5 pm) with coffee and cake. During the regular tours (12-15 clock), the participants can look forward to a lunch.

If you like hiking, this year you can look forward to guided hikes on the circular route through the upper Elbschetal, on the way of Henriette Davidis and through the rejoicing.

"People have always asked me if we can not even offer longer tours, so we've just added that to the program and we're on the road for about five hours on this tour (September 29th)."
Bernhard Kauer, hiking guide

New this year is the Elbsche tour followed by a stop at Albringhausen train station.

All tours and hikes are led by the approximately 20 volunteer city and hiking guides, who lead with a lot of passion, great knowledge and many a funny anecdote through the beautiful Wetter.

Somewhat faster on the road than on "Schuster's Rappen" is the Segway. After the premiere last year, the City Marketing this year offers a new addition to the two already known tours. For those already experienced in Segway driving it goes over the Hegestraße to the castle ruins Volmarstein.

Especially for families with children (nine to twelve years) is the offer "Family Wetter". Who lived in the castle in the Freiheit? Also around the Harkortturm are exciting questions to clarify, then to solve a tricky researcher quiz. By the way: If you are planning a "historical" children's birthday, you can also plan such a history tour individually with the city guides.

"It's amazing how we can create such a large and diverse program with the extraordinary dedication of our volunteers, which is hardly anything but self-evident."
Markus Drüke, Chairman City Marketing

Of course, with this dedicated troupe, one or the other "offspring" is always welcome. So if you can imagine leading guests from Wetter and the region through the beautiful Town of Harkort, you can contact the information office.

The individual dates of the respective tours and hikes can be found in the event flyer:

The flyer of the annual program 2019 is available in all public buildings, in restaurants and at petrol stations and is of course also available in the city marketing information office in the Sparkassen building at Kaiserstraße 78 (2nd floor, new building).

Further information about individual tours and registrations at Tina Huth and Wencke Ricci in the service office. Registrations are possible by phone and e-mail.
